Waco, Texas - (August 1, 2024) - Shawtime Productions is proud to announce the forthcoming feature-length documentary, "Z: The Story of David Zychek", a heartfelt exploration into the life and legacy of Texas musician David Zychek, whose profound influence on the music scene remains largely unrecognized. Produced and directed by Anna Shaw and Troy Shaw, this documentary is set to unveil the untold story of the central Texas musical legend.

David Zychek, a remarkable guitarist celebrated by peers and fans alike, passed away in 2016 at the age of 64. Despite his undeniable talent and influential contributions to the music industry, Zychek's story has remained largely untold—until now.

"Z: The Story of David Zychek" features a compelling narration by Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz, known for his work with the band Widespread Panic. Sunny, who shared a musical journey with Zychek in the early 70s, brings a unique perspective to the film, adding authenticity and reverence to the storytelling. His narration connects the past with the present, providing a deeper understanding of Zychek's influence.

The documentary showcases over 30 hours of interviews and a wealth of footage, including rare performance videos meticulously curated from Zychek's illustrious career. Among those interviewed are renowned artists closely associated with Zychek, including Ted Nugent, Beau Hill, Brett Tuggle, Vic Johnson, Kelly Keagy, Brad Gillis, and many more. Through their insightful anecdotes and reflections, viewers will gain unprecedented access to the life, successes, struggles, and undeniable talent of David Zychek. 

Produced by Shawtime Productions, LLC—a company co-founded by Anna and Troy Shaw in 2016—“Z: The Story of David Zychek” is more than just a documentary; it is a tribute to undervalued artists everywhere, highlighting broader issues of recognition and acknowledgment within the music industry. This film, with its captivating visuals, honest interviews, and the music that defined Zychek's career, offers a heartfelt exploration into the complexities of fame, talent, and the human experience.

In a poignant statement, record producer Ric Cabot Podmore, featured in the documentary, expressed, "He never found the fame or accolades I (and anyone else who heard him play) thought he should have received." Through “Z: The Story of David Zychek”, audiences will uncover the complexities of an artist who was as gifted as he was overlooked.

The documentary is being submitted for consideration at several film festivals, where Shawtime Productions hope to bring Zychek's story to a wider audience, resonating with both music lovers and those passionate about genuine, impactful storytelling.
